Concealed Carry

This is a Colorado certified and NRA certified pistol course that will qualify you to apply for a Concealed Carry Permit in the State of Colorado. Please be advised that you must be twenty-one years old, pass a background check and have a Colorado drivers’ license to be issued a Colorado Concealed Carry Permit.

This course is scheduled to take at least eight hours; consisting of both live fire range work and classroom hours. It can be taught in one or more sessions. The location of the classroom must be in the county where the student lives. I am a verified instructor for both Pitkin and Mesa Counties. For a private course, and I primarily teach private and semi-private classes, I’ll teach at your home or mine in Grand Junction and we will use either the Basalt or Cameo Shooting range. The course will consist of both the NRA basic pistol course, and the Colorado concealed carry course. You’ll receive certificates for each. The only certificate you will need to get your concealed carry permit is the Colorado certificate. I will have you read the NRA basic pistol book as well as the Colorado concealed carry book prior to our classroom time.

We’ll spend at least two hours on the range and often spend closer to three. Recently I had a couple contact me on a Saturday morning and they had their certificates in hand Sunday evening.

I bring a wide variety of handguns in different styles, calibers and cartridges during the range session. Typically, I’ll bring 22 LR target and range pistols, large and small revolvers, semi-auto pistols in both striker-fired and hammer fired models (like Glock or Sig or 1911 style pistols) and if you have an interest in handgun hunting, a single shot hunting pistol.

The cartridges I usually teach with include 22 LR, 22 Magnum, 9mm Luger, 38 Special, 357 Magnum, 44 Special, 44 Magnum and 45 Automatic (ACP). Many shooters find this helpful when considering a handgun purchase. You will fire pistols using both iron sights and dot sights.

You can use your own handgun if it’s an appropriate pistol or revolver, chambered in any cartridge, in good condition and safe to shoot. (DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS PLESE DO NOT BRING A SIG P320) You are welcome to use any of my firearms during teaching and training sessions. Plan on bringing and shooting about 100 rounds while at the range. There will be a required qualification target to shoot but it’s not a difficult standard to meet.
